98 v70 door locks

Hi all. New to the forum and to volvos. I recently got a 98 v70 glt. One key, no alarm fob.

The driver side door is unlocked and I can't lock it with the key. I can hear the actuator trying, and I see slight movement from the physical lock but it doesn't lock.

The passenger door and the two rear doors are locked and will not unlock. I've tried the universal lock on the driver door panel and nothing.

The driver side door metal had been cut it looks like to get access to the lock.

I have searched this forum and have seen issues with locks that required cutting the lock to pieces. I'm guessing in it's previous life this happened to my car. Any ideas on what's going on with the other doors? There have been issues with the vgla with the previous owner. Apparently the alarm had gone off and with no fob he disconnected the battery which didn't clear the alarm.

I know that's a lot of info and it might not all be related but I thought I would throw it in there in case.

Should I buy a new fob and try to reprogram it? This car has the red light on the dash. Could it be actuators on all doors? I'm honestly worried that if I try to open the passenger door from the inside the alarm will go off and I won't be able to turn it off.

I think new and reprogrammed fob will not help you. All locks should be operated from driver's panel even without fob. When engine is running, car must lock and unlock from driver's panel without activating alarm. And if you install VGLA unit from other car, it should operate locks from panel or driver's door, but alarm will not operate.
Do you hear all activators when trying to lock and unlock doors using panel?

I do not hear all the activators when I push the button on the door panel. I'm questioning if it's wired correctly. The only thing I can do to get the activator to try is to put the key in the driver side door and turn and then it's only the driver side door. The lock button on the door tries to go down but doesn't

It sounds to me like worn out locks or contaminated grease in the locks.

You can get the protective cover off the lock without cutting. The protective cover is attached to the lock. You take it off the lock after you disconnect the lock button from the lever, removed the two bolts that hold the lock to the door and pull the lock out.

if the passenger side lock tries to close but doesn't it is broken. The cause is usually someone trying to open the passenger front door before it has un-latched. There is a plastic part internally that breaks preventing the door lock mechanism operating. This is a more common issue as the cars are getting older and plastics are brittle.

If the rear doors are not moving at all it is possible that a few things are going on.

1) The motors have an overload resistor in them that fails with age. This stops the door motors operating. Often the issue first rears it head when the car is in hot weather. Eventually they will fail. I believe there is a 'How-to' on MVS for a repair for this. Headlight wiper motors have the same issue.
2) Broken wires in the door harness where the wires enter the doors. Lots of opening and closing over the years can cause the wires to break. This can also affect the door mirror adjusters, mirror heaters as well.
3) The master controller on the drivers door also fails with age. This can also affect the doors and window operation.
4) Are your doors 1 stage or 2 stage operation? Appreciate you don't have a fob, but if both front doors try to open on first turn of key then they are 1 stage but as I only have 2 stage I am not sure if all doors open on key first turn.
