2006 s40 ran hot. I guess

Post by Joegolden481 »

I picked this car up last week from auction. 116k and running great. I noticed coolant tank was low so added some water just to top off and get home. Oil looks great. I get on freeway. 80mph is so smooth. With no warning I start losing power. Make it off interstate and engine stalls. No warning lights. Temp gauge dead in the middle Only other thing I noticed was oil light flickered very quick when I merged on freeway. Weird because she had plenty and ran fine. Once off the freeway I see lots of smoke. But it is oil. Not steam. I open hood and oil has sprayed about the engine bay. I check coolant. None in the reservoir. She smokes for a while as I sit stranded for 3 hrs on freeway before I am towed home. I tried a day later to start her. NO compression. You know that sound.

I am confused somewhat because I am sure she ran hot. No coolant. But WTH with all the oil splatter and oil smoke. I have $2000 in the car and just can’t decide what to do now. Cut losses or try and DIY it? Robert left Atlanta the day before........I have done a few repairs over the years with success. But never anything this involved. Car was sold red light as is. But it had a really high condition report so I bid blindly and slightly uneducated about the P1 chassis. This really sucks. Never had a 40 or 50. But have owned many xc70,xc90, s60, a new s70, a new v70, 850, 240, 740 And heck even 2 760gle v6s (best car ever period. Don’t argue). What to do?? Thx for letting me cry Joe
