98 XC: removing a bent/broken connecting rod Topic is solved

Good to see y'all! Long time no talk. I've been enjoying my 960 mostly, although it's been parked for the last week because of my brakes. Drove right into a concealed pothole, trashed the master cylinder! Doing COMPLETE brake job minus the rotors and calipers.
While that's sitting til Wednesday, I'm curious about how easy and minimal I can possibly make it to attempt replacing a bent/broken connecting rod on my 98 XC, the parts XC being the donor. I understand I need to remove the oil pan. I don't want to take off the head. Can I remove a CR and piston together WITHOUT removing the crankshaft and head? By that I mean: After unbolting the CR/cap, can I pull the piston down through the bottom of the bore, around the crankshaft?
Does anyone have a picture of a 2.3/2.4 with oil pan removed?

First video 4:23. Although it's a different motor the crankshaft is in the way. In the second video you can tell you don't have enough room on the bottom for the piston ring compressor.

Yes the p80 L5 is very similar. The 99+ models have that rear mounted oil cooler and plastic pickup tube. The -98 p80 and 9 series white blocks have metal pickup tube, as well as bottom mounted oil filter and pcv is separate from oil filter. I love that video though. Very helpful. I MIGHT decide to remove lower and upper oil pan to remove and replace cylinder #2. If not I'm gonna move forward by selling it with the parts car.

someone needs to make some laparoscopic volvo surgery techniques. Make a small incision in the cylinder head, grab the broken connecting rod, tig weld suture the hole...

Also how did hitting a pothole trash the master cylinder? Ive hit a pothole big enough to turn my wheel square with no major damage to suspension in my last v70.

Hell, the brakes still work after i expertly navigated it horizontally into a tree.

makes you wonder about the craftsmanship of that non p80
