New problem, tape cassette won't stay in HU-613 player ?

Post by shodanx »

Hi,

I've been using a cassette to 3.5mm headphone input adapter for about 2 years in my XC70 2001.

It has been largely trouble free in that period. A few times when I put the cassette it, it would do Side A / B / A then eject routine but usually on the second or third try it would work and stay in without issue for months.

However, about a month ago, I put the cassette in and it checked both sides then ejected the tape.

I tried dozens of times and it just won' t stay in. I can jam it in (keep my finger in) but as soon as I let go, it comes out again.

Is there a way to overcome this without taking out the head unit ?

thanks

When this happened with the SC-816 that was in my old 2000 V70, the drive belt for the cassette mechanism was broken (I had been using a cassette adapter to play mp3s). I switched to a bluetooth hands-free adapter, which is much more convenient.

Try removing the tape and just using a blank cassette. I, too, have gone Bluetooth FM for this

Thanks, I will eventually try to remove the radio and see if I can repair it.

In the mean time, which bluetooth FM transmitter do you recommend ? I have tried half a dozen and they all end up with static no matter what channel I use and the audio quality is not as good as wired.

I have this one in both of my XC70's:

No static problems unless there is a strong radio station at the transmitter frequency, more of an issue when driving in downtown Toronto. These gadgets pacified my teenagers, who were disappointed that the "new" cars didn't come with at least aux jacks!

Don't forget to disconnect the car battery. These radios should be cheap off Ebay, may try finding one of the same 2001 year as yours. Also a few videos on Youtube how to remove it, all it takes is a T25 philips screw driver (not sure if a torx socket will fit in there)
