The only boots I've been able to find are Rein. I used them for my 2000 R driver side axle, and it's been good so far, but I've only put maybe 800-1,000 miles on it.
Hopefully someone knows where to get quality axle boots, I need to rebuild an OE Volvo axle I have in the shed for my '98.

I’ve used the GKN 300597 boot on my 97 850 R and according to cn90’s info the inner boots are the same on the NA.
It is an Audi boot, but fits fine.

There is so much thread bloat in these axle boots posts lol. Go to the definitive post from NorthernLights who first sorted this out, all correctly: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=64252.

You can just look at the first post, unless you are up for a discussion that winds all over the place. The GKN 300597 is what you want, it also goes by part number 893-498-201-B-M60. AutoHausAZ is usually a great source.

EDIT: Wow this is a good price too https://www.eeuroparts.com/Parts/183753 ... ns-300597/

Got the Volvo compatible Audi boot for inner CV joint. Side-by-side it looks just right.

The method of uninstalling and installing axle used removing 2 bolts connecting strut to knuckle.

The axle is now back in the car, but there is a squeak when steering is rotated 2/3 way - like brake squeaking. It only happens during tight LEFT turn. Your thoughts?

Also discovered cracks hidden in the folds of the driveaxle cv boot -- perpetual repair.

This is a bit of revival again, sorry. My outer CV boot has just split (MY96 850 T5M), and I have already ordered a GKN Lobro replacement. My question is, is it necessary to remove the entire axle, or can this be done 'in car'? If it is not possible, how much gearbox fluid will I lose?

Much easier to remove the axle and do it outside of the car. You'll have to hammer the hell out of the outer joint to remove it, then it goes back together fairly easily.
You shouldn't lose much fluid, if any. Especially if you only have the one corner of the car jacked up.

DORMAN makes a split boot that can be put on without removing the CV joint. I’m not sure if it can be done on car though.

I have been told you can’t get DORMAN parts in the UK but that doesn’t seem right.
