We have two 2015 V60’s with about 90K on them. Both have the oil consumption issue. Volvo of America directed us to the dealer for evaluation. We were told replacing the flame trap/breather box would likely cure the issue. It did not. Now the dealer wants $5700 per car to replace the pistons and rings. They don’t seem to want to help us contact VCA about the problem. They were very surprised when we declined to schedule the repairs. Any advice on this? Can we just keep adding oil?

If you are not getting any blue smoke under any condition. Piston and rings are highly unlikely.

The 2011-2016 Volvo S60, S80, V60, XC60, XC70 six cylinder 3.0L and 3.2L engines have a issue with the dipstick tube leaking. Check to see if the dipstick tubes are leaking.

Thanks for the reply. No smoke from either car, no drips on the floor.

The oil is going somewhere. Not like it just vanishes into thin air.
Put some trace dye in the oil. Drive it, put the car in the dark, then use a UV light to find where the oil is going. Don't forget to look up the tailpipe.

Will do. I’d welcome a leak over a $5700 engine repair

$5700 X 2 = $11,400 + tax ~ $12,400 ... Unless one is an idiot, one does not shell out that kind of money without confirmation. Confirm where the oil is going before throwing money at it.

I don’t plan to shell out money without knowing it is unavoidable.

I would pull the splash guard off the bottom. There might be a pile of dried up Oil on top of it.
