Turbo and Downpipes??

Post by hipcheck »

A local U-Pull-it yard from me has just added several V70/S70 cars.

To the best of my knowledge these turbos should be angle flange turbos ( I have a rebuilt 16T that I want to add to my 1997 850 T-5)

Can anyone confirm that these cars would have angle flange downpipes?

I do not want to drive 3 hours round trip and not find what I am looking for.

Thank you,

Steve

The 98 will have a straight outlet flange. If it is a turbo car.

The 99+ will all have angled flanges. If they are turbo cars.

Are you sure these are all turbo cars? Doesn't say one way or the other in the text you pasted in. Usually more NA cars come in that turbo cars.

This was a simple drag and copy, but all but 1 were listed as Turbo. I am hoping to find at least one decent downpipe!

Junkyard info is about 50% reliable in my experience. It would be a great service if they would snap a picture of the colour code plate when people visit junkyards..you get VIN and option information in one shot

Don’t forget to check junkyard request forum. Parts under 150 pounds an be dog-to-dog shipped pretty cheaply

Keep in mind the second thing most junkyards do is cut the catalytic converters off of cars, after poking gas tanks, and they are not careful to preserve downpipes. You may still need to remove, cut and have the "new" piece welded to your existing downpipe.
Current Volvos:
1998 V70 T5, 112k sat 5 years, still in mechanical coma (finally at the top of the pile )
2004 XC90 T6 AWD: 186k, 60 on transaxle ( traded in )
1998 POS70 N/A: DD/training aid, 236k but really about 240k, I think...ABS module( passed on to son who sold it)

It looks like I can finally start my turbo/exhaust phase of the build.

I will get a local muffler shop to build me a exhaust system after finally getting an angle flange downpipe.

16T
R manifold
Angle flange downpipe

I also got some blue injectors today. I will get them cleaned and flow checked.

I am finishing up the big bore intake system to go with these injectors too.

Why on earth do they do that? Reusing old gas might work, but what do you do with an old cat? scrap metal?

The internals are worth $$$. This is why you constantly hear about them being stolen off of people's cars.

Most of the pipes were jacked up really bad. Happy to get one with a really nice looking flex section.

Interesting. Never heard about that on my side of the pond.
But what was common here was wrecked cars being sold to eastern Europe where people were quite good at fixing bent cars. But the airbags were deployed on these wrecks, so for years people would steal airbags like crazy.

P.S. Sorry for threadjacking.
Glad you found a good downpipe.
