'88 760GLE Radio

Post by DeRail »

Hey guys,

I got my hands on a 1988 760gle. It is sweet!

I went down to the Volvo dealership and picked up the radio code since the previous owner had changed the battery but didn't have the code written down anywhere and now the radio says "off". I asked the gentleman who helped me out and he said to leave it in the #1 position for a few hours. I did that, still no dice. I also left the radio on during that time.

Should it be in #2 instead? Or, should the radio be off?

Thanks for your help :)

There are two schools of thought on resetting the older radios.

The first is what you have done, which is the method for the later radios.

The second is to switch the ignition on so that the warning lights on the instrument panel are on. Obviously everything else, heater etc., should be off to avoid a flat battery.

In both methods the radio must be switched on as it will only reset when it has power to it.

Fantastic,

I went down to the car this morning, turned the key and the radio was ready to accept a code \o/

Maybe it just needed the night to reset, who knows

Thanks for the help, all :D

When I first read this I saw 'rest' and thought "Lazy radio".

Glad you've got it fixed and thanks for the update.
