How important are trailing arm links (aka transverse arm bushings)?
Is it urgent that I replace the trailing arm (aka transverse arm) link bushings if they look cracked? My newly acquired 2000 V70 needs a full suspension refresh yet this seems like the hardest part with the least pay off. How do these bushings look to you?

If it feels like rear wags when changing lane or a sensation of rear skidding, then you need to service the trailing arm components. It is not safe for wet weather driving on freeway.

I changed both of mine and it Immediately tightened up the rear-end. I would say it’s worth it and not that difficult of a job. I used the Volvo tool and a little heat. I learned later from others that more heat, essentially melt the rubber inside the arm, would’ve saved me a bunch of time.

Get the back end up and see how much movement is in them when you pry with a tire iron
I would say you have a couple of years on them left.

Is it critical for this moment? If it were me, no. Should you get them done in the future? I would. Would I prioritize it over a pizza this month? Nope.

I have seen worse. Also check the other end. There are aluminum mounting blocks. I have seen those crack in areas with lots of rust issues.
