P80 heater core screw , core to pipe 986200

Post by januwan »

I just replaced my original heater core. Four thread forming screws (I think this is the correct name) are installed but I am not sure if the horizontal screw between the pipes is the same thread forming screw or is it a machine screw with a finer thread. I do have one "extra" t25 screw with finer thread.

Please help I am having a senior moment. BTW I am a senior :))

I believe the one you refer to is longer and has a different thread pattern from the others. It has to be snugged down nicely, so you'll pretty much need the identical screw. Someone else might chime in. I think I have a couple somewhere. Did you lose yours?

Thanks rguzz. When I was pulling the old core, this screw landed on the carper but I thought the screw in question was still on the core. I was looking for the place it came out but I couldn't find any. I was under the impression (I don't know why) that all screws have the same thread. I spent some time looking for the fifth screw with the same thread. I finally checked Robert's video and realized the horizontal screw between the pipes has a different thread.
Everything is already assembled and is working fine.

It is a T25 head machine screw and is different from the screws that hold in the core frame

Part 986200 M5 x 16 mm size

It is hard to find internet Volvo diagram because it hides in the body > air distributor tab, not in the climate or cooling group area

Volvo Obscura..a 1968 P1800 uses the same screw to hold the fuel pump in.
