Once again I replaced my front suspension(2nd time) as well as new subframe bushings.(IPD)
I like the ride of the car but I hate how it handles bumps. Simple bumps feel like craters as you cringe with each bump.
Is it the car or just me being to comfortable in today’s new cars? Or perhaps I’m overlooking something.

I totally rebuilt my ‘06 v70 (112k) suspension, everything. I downsized from 17” to 16” wheels, new tires, but still have that rough ride especially on New York State backroads, great on the highways though. Next time I need tires, I’ll think a 195/65R15 will make as big a difference as it was going from 17 to 16. Your right as far as comparing to today’s new cars. Must be a Volvo thing, how are your CA’s and end links?

Overinflation would surely make a difference, I believe it’s probably something you’ll have to get use to. Like I said in previous post going from 45 to 55 in tire aspect ratio, made a difference, I’ll go to 65 next tire set. The 235/45R17’s option

I just rebuild the struts with parts from FCP. And then got a refund with their return policy that doesn’t expire.

Not all shocks are as soft. Cheaper will be harsher. Tire pressure does affect, anything over 35 psi will feel harsher depending on the road. Try a 32psi see if it helps. I have new genuine shocks, original springs, 15" wheels and new CA's. Roads just as bad as in NYC. Ride is a bit harsh for the first 5 min drive (perhaps 'cold' shocks), then it becomes very acceptable. Of course, will never be Lincoln Town Car, but it's not harsh even on the worst bumps. The old springs also cause some stiffness, if you compare to how a new car slides over bumps. With the original suspension (swapped out at 100K miles), it felt like an F40, especially in winter days. Also, new CAs will be rough for a few weeks, until the new bushings soften up a little. Really off alignment will also cause some sort of an 'impact' when the front tires hit a bump.
