Glad you asked. Piston pumps are used for oil field pumping services which include pumping fluid cement, nitrogen gas, chemicals, and other fluids into wells. They are also used for the fracturing operations on wells that has become so widely reported by media in the last decade. All of these operations require positive displacement pumps because they need to be high pressure to force the materials into the well. Pressure can be 3 to 5,000 PSI for shallow wells and 15,000 PSI or more for deep wells and fracturing operations. These pumps are often 3 or 5 cylinders and can have ratings from 500 to 2500 horsepower. The cylinders (plungers) are 3 to 6 inches in diameter. They generally operate at a few hundred RPM. These pumps are normally of the cross head design to avoid side loads on the pressure plungers.

Interesting. That's makes sense, low rpm, big loads. So it gradually beats itself to death instead of breaking or ripping apart like a high rpm failure.

Thank God we banned that in my State. That’s going to be a huge mess to clean as these sites are abandoned for economics

A few years ago we where getting earthquakes in Kansas. The epicenters where fracking sites in Oklahoma where regulations where more lax. When the Oklahoma Supreme Court ruled people could sue for damages. The energy companies companies toned it down.

Identify this slippery car. Not a trick question - I'll have to look it up too. I remember it's a 80s(?) prototype with a Mercedes V12 mid-ship. Pre-aero flaps and wings, but it was very slippery and clearly has venturi tunnels underneath. Clean lines. It had a lot of borrowed parts from the Porsche parts bin - note the 928 headlights.

I had to dig it up again...

It's the Isdera Commendatore 112i from 1993. 6 liter Mercedes V12. German car with Japanese funding that eventually fell through. Had designs on running LeMans, hence the long aero tail.
