07 S60 Numerous modules down, replaced CEM by xemodex

Post by garye »

07 S60 2.5t 112k
I had the airbag service urgent,dim,Central locking, no sunroof,Pwr windows,locks,int light etc... problems!
Repl CEM (xemodex)
I had to remove entire dash to repair a couple of ground and miscellaneous wires (solder) I’ve been through the entire system from front to back but still can’t get the can bus to come up completely, I have power and ground at the data link connector (DLC)However I can’t get a reading of ohms, Unless I set my meter to 200 K And then I get 25 on 3/11and 50 on 6/14 ( I can’t use a scanner or my friends LAUNCH, because I have”no communication”)
Have replaced the ignition switch, the alternator,(I had no problem with it no alternator light or anything) I have checked the spade at the starter, my starter cranks fine when I jump it at the relay.. I’m currently at the no crank,no start,no fuel,im sure because of immobilizer by now. Looked at all grounds and cleaned every one of them, A So California car no rust no snow salt. This car has never been in any accidents and it ran and drove like new before this, I’ve been dealing with this to long,And as a result, I can’t think outside of the box, I can’t make sense of the power source, How everything could shut down like it did.
I have taken a voltage test and I get good voltage (5v total)out of High 6/14 and Low 3/11
at the DLC. But when I try to connect to the modules to see what they are getting,the only one or two that I get a reading from are the CCM and the SRS, which I find strange because they are both in the middle of the can bus Network nothing on either side of them shows any voltage.When I turn the key on I have running lights front and rear, my radio did work,My check engine light comes on and then flashes a few times which is normal and goes out other than that it’s the only light I have in my dim.One of my questions is;
A.Does the cb (can bus) wires (green/white) get power through INDIVIDUAL MODULES or from the CEM (main), the UEM/REM where the terminating resistors are. (All modules have good +/- going to them) I would appreciate any help I could get because I have to do this myself,which is ok,I have been around cars all my life,but currently I am 66 years old/Basically broke.(thanks in part to Covid) and it’s the only car I have, and I love it!,

Bump. This was posted in the wrong forum in November and didn't get seen.
Help keep MVS on the web -> click sponsors' links here on MVS when you buy from them.

Also -> Amazon link
. Click that when you go to buy something on Amazon and MVS gets a cut!

Some modules are powered via relays in CEM (like BCM and DIM), some - directly.

DiCE/VIDA can probably read some codes out of your CEM, try it.

This may help with CAN-bus diagnostics: http://www.s80.dk/Billeder/2010-05-26_205437_088051.pdf

How exactly did the problem start at the very beginning ? Was there any maintenance or repair done prior to the problem starting ? Did the battery went flat at any moment ?

I’m just throwing a guess but perhaps the siren/modular box that’s located within the right fender. The internal battery corrodes and puts the car in theft mode. I had similar issues as you stated.
Good luck

thanks for your reply;
I figured out that my upper control module (uem) the resistor was bad
I found a good one with the same numbers and I sent it out yesterday to get it reprogrammed and I should have it back Monday most likely. I checked every wire in my "slow speed" Can network and I have continuity in every wire, I'm going to check all Can voltage tomorrow, to see if I'm getting those 5 volts combined on the network. at least now my REM and Uem have 120 ohms by themselves now if I can just get 60 after I get it back and hook it all up I'll be happy ,it's been a nightmare

I confirm your UEM was dead. It did not answer to diagnostic tool commands even on the bench. I had to extract data from chip with direct connection to it. Also your replacement UEM is ok, I programmed it used your original data.

Unfortunately, Denis did not get chance to send back it today (( most likely you should receive it Tuesday.

But, even if you disconnect UEM, but you have connected REM, it still should work and you are able to start engine and use it, except some options like doors locks, cabin lights etc. If you still can not do it, I do not think replacement UEM help you solve issue. But lets see. Let me know if you still have some issues, will try to figure out the next step.

Is there a way to reset the alarm/siren, my fob won’t do it, battery disconnect won’t do it, Lock and unlock three times won’t do it.Don’t Forget that my UEM is out for reprogramming, i couldn’t get it to turn off before either.

Trying to get everything back together with this new UEM.
I am in countering a leaking error when trying to I hook up my I’ll tell Maxi link ML 619, I noticed when it is trying to link up it pauses longer than usual on the KWP 2000 and the ISO 91 41–2 I don’t know if that has anything to do with anything but I noticed it so I thought I would post it. I’m going to check my ECM anybody have any other ideas?
Thank you in advance, gratefully appreciate it
