Driver's side door control panel partially not working DDM

Post by UCrazyKid »

So I have had the DDM (driver's door module) stop working correctly in my 2004 XC70 P2. It will control all the windows, locks and passenger door mirror, BUT will NOT control the drivers window, lock or mirror. I have removed the module, I have disassembled it, cleaned it, check all contacts, checked all connections. I have check the wiring harness and I have check and cleaned all the pins that connect to the DDM. I have a VIDA/DICE computer. I can see the DDM, I can control everything the DDM can control, except what I cannot directly do via the module as described above. What is the next step?
Is the module good and needs to be reprogrammed? OR is the module bad and needs to be replaced AND the new module reprogrammed? I do not understand if the problem is with s/w or with the module it's self. If a DDM needs programming, does it not work at all? If it is JUST the driver's side accessories that cannot be controlled, does the whole module need to be replaced?
Thanks!

Have you checked the fuse for the drivers door?

As Chrism mentioned, check the fuse. There are actual two fuses that power the Driver's door module, one is common to both the DDM and PDM so I don't think this fuse is bad, it's 11C/27 but fuse 11C/35 is unique to the DDM and this is the one to check carefully, it's a 25A fuse and located on the left side of the dash as is 11C/27.

Thank you! I will check both fuses. I found some more links that also point to a cold or dry solder joint failing in the module. If it's not the fuse, I am on the fence of trying to reflow the solder on the PCBs of the DDM or just purchase a salvaged unit and use it (in fear of it just failing again like the original). I'll let you know what I find. Thanks for pointing out there are TWO fuses as I have only seen mention of one so far.

Ok, I check the fuses. I did not find what I expected to see from your comment. There was a fuse in position 35 for front door left and one in position 36 for front door right. Both were 25A and intact. I looked for position 27 and there was no fuse present. The position is labeled as "CCD". I am not sure what that is, perhaps an option the car is not equipped with. With this fuse missing and me being the only driver/mechanic of this vehicle, I have to assume it has never been there and is not the cause of the problem. Never the less, I placed a 15A fuse in slot 27 to see if it made and difference, and not change. I am now really led to believe the module is a problem, likely a broken solder joint. I am going to ask a friend that is very well versed in electronics to help me reflow the PCB. If that doesn't work, I will then just purchase a salvaged part.
