No high beams -- 98 V70 Manual

Post by wizechatmgr »

I have low beams and parking lights. When I go to engage the high beams it doesn't flash and I get nothing on the dash.

I'm thinking relay, fuse or switch/stalk. I'll be checking the requisite fuses tomorrow. I know it blew an alternator, so it's possible the high got hit if it were engaged at the time.

Anyone know the failure likelihood on each of these with exception of the fuse? Do we have any chopped up schematics?

And for those wondering, it's darn near impossible to solder abs harness wires. I don't know what is up with them but I think the next time I'll try acid core solder.

I would check bulbs first. I’ve got spares to swap in the driveway.

I had thought this step had been done first. Hence the electrical diagrams .

But yes, you have to check the bulbs first.

Any voltage at the high-beam sockets?

Most susceptible to high voltage?
I’d look at the hi/low headlight relay.

And here’s a fuse legend:

Interesting

The stalk bypasses the light relay. So if the bulbs test good, you can rule out simple relay failure with the stalk test.

Fuses 11C/19-22 and 11C/13 are relevant too

I'll try to test that tonight if I get any time.

For those wondering, don't wash an NA with a distributor cap if you aren't sure it'll stay dry... Don't ask how I know =(
