1994 Volvo 850 - Confused which timing belt to buy

It is a NA B5254FS engine with manual trans. I need to replace the water pump so I figured I would do the timing belt as well, first time ever doing so.

Problem is on many websites, such as autozone, for the vehicle fitment, 3-4 different timing belts pop up with different teeth counts and different width's and lengths.

I tried to google around for it typing B5254FS timing belt etc. but I can't find specifics, searched on here as well.

How do I found out the exact spec timing belt I need for this B5254FS engine?

Oh also I looked at the timing cover.

Artikel NR 1289958 and Serial NR 289993

Most of the timing belts say 'from' or 'to' around the number 131035. Which is not very confidence inducing.

I believe that to be the chassis number which I believe is the last 6 digits of the VIN. If not, it's the engine serial number series.

Then the belt you need is the "to" 131035, as yours was built before the change. (Whatever change there was)

Use FCP Euro, IPD, or EEuroparts at least for reference. Volvopartsonline even better. Don't trust "generic" like big box auto.

EDIT -

I mis-spoke. It IS the engine serial # that you need to reference, not the chassis #.

Your engine serial # is 289993, which is after the change-over. Sorry.

Thanks Chuck, I wondered about that, too.

Op, the serial number of the engine Is on a white sticker on the timing cover, or, stamped into a metal flange behind the front of the engine. You have to remove the metal exhaust shield to read the second one , and usually clean the metal too

As long as the timing cover hasn't been changed, the number the OP posted should be the same as the one on the engine.

Hopefully they haven't already ordered parts...
