I am curious to know if one can change the bolts in the rear license plate mounting bracket. Like could I remove the rear tailgate interior panel and change the bolts from metric to standard or vice versa?

For GPs or are your bolts stripped or something? You could change them, but it may not be the best option
Current Volvos:
1998 V70 T5, 112k sat 5 years, still in mechanical coma (finally at the top of the pile )
2004 XC90 T6 AWD: 186k, 60 on transaxle ( traded in )
1998 POS70 N/A: DD/training aid, 236k but really about 240k, I think...ABS module( passed on to son who sold it)

You can buy a new plate holder for about $18 from FCP, part 31391626 . IT screws into rubber bushings in the trunk with Torx screws. M6 acorn “stainless “ nuts from Lowe’s or other hardware store work well here

A dab of anti seize helps keep them from rusting up.

I’ve been more sensitive to plate holders since I’ve been shuffling which members of the fleet are registered

( For our UK membersrecoiling in horror, most States here assign plate to registrant, not to the car. It’s yet another reason you have nice things )
