Tried Installing a new radio in my 2004 V70

Post by xtoxicxnight »

Hey, ive installed radios left and right in most makes like ford, chevy, mercury, and so on, i bought my first volvo almost a year ago and ive grown to love it so i decided i was going to install a new radio for myself for a change and i looked up a wiring diagram for it and it said the gray connector for the Hu-613 radio was the front and rear speakers and it had a list of possible problems but nothing like this was mentioned, i cut the speaker wires and wired them up to the new harness that came with the radio like i have many times before and when i did, most of the stuff on the steering column stopped working including the blinkers, dim switch for the headlights, cruise control, the top interior lights, moon/sun roof but it still runs and drives fine, brake lights, reverse lights, headlights, even the emergency lights still work, and id love some advice on this, ive never had anything like this happen from cutting speaker wires before( i did forget to disconnect the battery in my excitment to get the new radio installed, its disconnected now though) like i said i love my car and i dont want to get rid of it like everyone keeps telling me after i told them what happened

Read the codes with DiCE/VIDA.

I have Kenwood 2DIN in place of HU-650 and it didn't break anything (besides steering wheel controls no longer worked before I've soldered/programmed my own adapter).

Have you checked the 11C/23 fuse, it's a 5A fuse on the left side of the dash and powers the Steering Wheel Module.

I have done many radio fitouts on all my Volvos including my 2001 xc70, I do alot of things without disconnecting the battery just be careful if it a live wire you dont short it or ground it. im fairly sure its impossible to do what you said by cutting the speaker wire (cutting both wires at the same time), even if the radio power was on you cound only damage the amplifier/radio and maybe the fuse will blow? but not what you descibe. Youve done something else by mistake, check fuses etc or likely a plug has been dislodged etc. dont panic all these things are fixable.

the steering wheel controls wont work unless you get an adapter, i havent bothered with that too expensive.
