O3 s60 turbo.

Post by 03s60nnc »

I acquired an 03 S60 2.4 Turbo.I installed a new timing belt, pulleys, ideler tension, waterpump, battery, alternator. Started losing water. Found a leak on heated hose, so I shorten and reclamped. About a month later noticed water mix under oil cap. Now it seems water is going straight through tailpipe (lots of steam) Im only assuming head gasket. Local mechanic wants 2grand to fix. Does not include valve seals. I like the car. I've seen many videos on YouTube including Robinson's garage about how to work on the head. Wondering what I need to do to determined what exactly is wrong with it before I make any decision. Also is it possible to put a turbo on a non-turbo same year make and model. I may have found a donor engine but it is non turbo. Same year make and model. Thank you for any input it is greatly appreciated

Thats a hard no for putting a turbo onto an NA Volvo engine.

On a 2k budget an engine swap is a better deal - you can usually get an engine with warranty for about $500, and its not a hard swap on these cars.

Is it possible to swap the heads on a non-turbo to a turbo?

Valves are different on P80s, I’m not sure about P2s but would expect the same

I took a video of the large amount of smoke coming out of the tailpipe. Is it possible to post the video? It keeps telling me it's an invalid file extension

put it on youtube and link it.

when I had steam from the tailpipe it was the turbo seal passing coolant into the exh.
Better to get a definitive diagnosis, did the mechanic do a compression or leakdown test ?
Why would you do valve work if its just a gasket job.
I believe if its a gasket problem the combustion gas gets in the coolant more than coolant gets in the oil because combustion is higher pressure than coolant .
If valve seals are worn they leak oil into the cyl overnite and the engine blows blue smoke when started.
With the engine cold see if the coolant bottle is under pressure.
