I hope someone can help me. I am a good shade tree mechanic but my 2015 XC60 has a problem I cant solve and neither can the dealer or independent shop.
The car will only take gas during a fill up very, very slowly. I mean basically a trickle otherwise the gas pump will shut off or gas will spew out of the filler neck. I have this problem consistently regardless of gas pump, gas station, way I hold the nozzle, believe me, I've tried everything.
So far, I have taken it to the dealership and an independent shop. Both say I need a new gas tank. I have run a bore scope down the neck and there are no obstructions, replaced the vent filter, blown out the vent lines with compressed air and read countless forums.
Both shops have told me there is a valve inside the tank that "could" be the problem and it is built into the tank. Total cost for a new tank is approaching $3k parts and labor.
Does anyone have any other ideas as to what the problem could be or how to fix short of replacing the tank?
Thanks

Have you tried backing the pump nozzle out a bit? My 850 had this problem, and backing out an inch worked every time.

I have literally tried everything. All lengths of nozzle insertion. Holding at 5 O'clock, 7 O'clock, upside down. Problem has been duplicated by the dealer and independent shop.
The tank is definitely not venting but I cannot figure out why. The only way for fuel vapors to escape are out the neck, which cause fuel to splash back and shut the pump off.
Also, no codes are present.

Picked up the car from the independent shop today. Decided not to replace the tank. It only had half a tank in it so thought I would stop and fill up to give another try after the shop had hoses off and poking around, hoping maybe they cleared a blockage or something. Im sad to report, no change. I inserted nozzle all the way, half way, barely inserted (just enough to move flap out of way, held it at 12:00, 3:00, 6:00, 7:00, 9:00. None of these made any difference. It took forever to get 12 gallons of fuel in there.
Any recommendations on things to look at short of replacing the tank? Does anyone have a complete diagram of the tank and all the hoses/vents going to and from?

I have the same problem with my 2015.5 V60. It has gotten steadily worse but now it takes me close to 5 minutes of trickle filling to actually fill my tank. When you open your gas cap to fill up, is there a hissing sound as air goes into the tank? I'm sure it's a vent somewhere that's blocked but I can't find it.
About 2 years ago I had to replace the factory gas cap because it wasn't venting properly and making a weird noise whenever pressure finally built up enough to open the valve.

My daughter had the same issue on her old Hyundai. The problem was that the charcoal was disintegrating and coming out of the canister and clogging the vent hose. I was told that forcing more fuel into the tank after the nozzle clicks off may have been the cause.
