The app is called 850 OBDII?
Yeah.

There are a couple of other non-Volvo-specific OBD2 apps that can also allow for real-time readings or just general code reading/clearing. I've used the "Torque" app, as well as the "Carista" ones (both available on the App Store) with the same BT dongle.

The 850 OBDII app can't be beat for the M4.4 Volvo's though for detailed readings and specific tools.

Here is the link for android phones for the 850 obdII app.
It can read mileage from the cluster as well as reset the service light and read ABS codes. Its takes a little getting used to. I also use the BAFX bluetooth reader. A little bulky but works well.

The last time I ran ABS codes this is what the app told me. Its suggestive to me that maybe the module is bad.

Ahh, so it's Android only? I didn't see it while searching in my app store and the original suggested dongle is also not IOS compatible. I picked up a VeePeak (good reviews and such). If it doesn't work well for some reason I will just use it in my truck. My girlfriend has an old Android I can wipe and use it solely for the Volvo and corresponding dongle if needed.

Original scanner returned today already.

I was going to suggest exactly that. The app is cheap, used androids are plentiful. We will be happy to help walk you through the app if you need the assistance. Its pretty crazy to think some random dude in Sweden programmed this himself. I wish I could do things like that but don't have the time or patience.

Thanks! I will dig her old phone out and poke around when I get the dongle delivered Wednesday.

EDIT: Spoiler alert, she must have traded her old phone in. Will try and see if any other family members have an old one sitting around. For the time being I will choose an app or two for the Veepeak adapter and report back.

You can also probably pick up a cheap Android-based tablet.

1996 & 1997 850 Motronic 4.4 cars are fully OBDII except ECC.
1997-2000 are fully OBDII including ECC.
These cars have modules for everything...Engine,auto tramsmission,abs,instrument cluster,power seats,immobiliser,ecc,srs.
So....plenty of modules to communicate with...with proper Volvo scan tool.
Vol-Fcr for '96 & '97 850...'97 and '98 s,v,c,xc70....and Vida for '99 and '00.

Earlier 850 cars from '92-'95 are OBDI for EU market.
Some '95 for U.S market have both....OBDI under the hood and OBDII data link in the cabin.
I know what you mean. But most stuff is manufacturer specific ways to get hold on over OBDII port. As you referred volfcr or official tool in example.

I was actually referring what person (now returned) tool was capable of. It was basic or standard OBDII emission test level tool which should work same on each car and how far it is supported is up to manufacturer and legal requirements.

Pxxx style codes are those up to standard as example but as one person shared screenshot of Volvo specific fault codes they are different as they are for manufacturer originally. In official OBDII standard level (i lost words what to call exactly sorry) car does return a list of OBDII PIDs what car has support of. 850 OBDII app does show this for user after the Scan in example.

For me i have only gearbox AW 50-42 which does these standard level things and it does example have only handful of those Pxxx style codes supported. My car is with Fenix 5.2 engine ECU. I have Motronic M4.4 ECU standing on my bench for study purposes and some day i may install it in my car to do tuning and yes it does support standard Pxxx codes in some level too.

Ha, I saw that your app said Finland and not Sweden when I was reading about it. Looks pretty awesome. Since you are here (and I am very uneducated on the function of bluetooth dongles) will your app on Andriod work with the VeePeak I ordered or will I need the original ELM327 for it to work properly?

Going to give this one a shot with an IOS compatible app just to see what it lets me accomplish on the 4.4 electronics. Might pick myself up a nice cheap Andriod tablet for the the app if needed like Chuck suggested.

I am not going to be sore if I have to buy the correct one as I have plenty of other vehicles I can utilize the VeePeak unit in. I did fall to the trick that I think the IOS function kills my mobile data by connecting via WIFI instead of bluetooth because Apple isn't getting their "Fair" share.

Appreciate the insight Sir.

EDIT: This is the one I picked up since I don't have an Andriod device handy at the moment.
