Ignition Lock Issues

Hi all,

I am having recurring issues with the ignition lock / steering wheel lock feature on a 2001 V70 T5.

Specifically, the car goes into steering wheel / ignition lock (hope i'm using the correct term here) frequently. When it does, the key will not move in the ignition. I know not to force it. I of course gently move the steering wheel and press the brake while trying to turn the key. It can take up to fifteen minutes before it finally turns over. It seems to have started after I repaired the drivers side window, but I can't be sure. The first time this happened, I was repairing that window. It happens maybe 1/4 of the time.

sounds like the locking tab on the ignition barrel is sticking, most likely just needs a cleaning. I dont think you can take the barrel apart but you may be able to spray some lube in there?.Removal of the barrel can be a challenge because they use dome headed (anti theft) bolts. If you swap your ignition barrel you need the key and you need to swap the ID chip (RFID) inside the key. Ive done this to my 2001 as the barrel was worn and the key was used as a chew toy. I also swapped the driver door lock to match the key, also remove the Volvo ID plate or write down the VIN from the donor car.
