S70 Braking Issues

Post by 98S70T5 »

Ok guys, back again with the car that never fails to fail.

Finished up the PCV service a 2 weeks ago and did a 700 mile round trip last weekend from home to Wisconsin and back. I was cruising down the highway and had to jump on the brakes quickly. I stepped on them and the pedal was nice and hard and you could feel the rear brakes only working. if you stay on the brakes it will eventually let the pedal move and the fronts will start working. It feels like a valve is closed and then you open it.

The car has fresh brake hoses up front an a reman master cylinder as of about a year ago. I read on the forum someone had issues with the mechanical section of the ABS but that seemed to isolate breaking to one wheel vs both front or rear. This is loss of 100% of front brakes with no loss of the rears.

I am thinking proportioning valve but I have very little experience with this particular hydraulic system.

By the time I got to my home exit it essentially lost all front brakes. I took it out on my county road with some snow cover and confirmed the rears were the only ones locking up. I can toss it around like using the hand brake only.

Any pointers are appreciated. Also, offers to purchase the car will be entertained. I will either be trading it on something newer or selling outright as soon as the brakes are safe to operate.

Thanks,
