Off topic - extreme temperatures for central Canada

Off topic a little (more), we are hit by very low temps in the central and western Canada, in the states close to the American border, I wonder if the northern American states are also under alert for cold weather ? Even for Canada this is really cold weather for the main cities - the eastern Toronto and Montreal are spared though

Numbers in Fahrenheit - as observed, in Celsius is about the same at these values

I assume that temperature is in Fahrenheit, but it does not matter, it is cold by any measurement.

At -40 Fahrenheit and Celsius converge, admit indeed does not matter.

Central plains States are forecast for that cold ,hopefully it won’t make itEast.

This weather is certainly hard on cars, even well maintained ones. If you can, plug in your block heater ( if you have one) or park inside a heated garage. My car sits outside because the truck and wife's car live in the garage. The Volvo will start without being plugged in as low as -38 which is great but it makes me cringe thinking about the wear that is happening for the first few minutes! That being said, I haven't driven it for three day and likely will not for the next week unless I absolutely have too. It was minus 29C this morning and I walked 3kms to pick up lottery tickets at the convenience store.

Yesterday was a very interesting day here on the west slope of the Continental Divide in Montana. It was 37F here and snow all melted, while an hour and a half away in Helena MT on the east slope it was +7F. Overnight they got down to -8F and 6 to 8" of new snow.

Today the cold air over there is pouring over the mountains, blowing hard from the east here, temp dropping, drifting snow. We hate those Canadian / Midwest cold fronts. The mountains are only so high.

Forecast here for the next week is cold but not that bad, the range is approximately -5 F to +5 F for the highs. Currently 4˚and sunny here.

A brake light burned out last night fortunately I swapped it when the temp was still up around 12 F. We'll see how the battery does on the S60 this week, it has been a little flaky.

Sub-zero temperatures as far south as the Nebraska / Kansas line.
Southern Kansas Is going to float around +14 °F for the full 24 hours of Monday.
