My new-to-me 2000 V70 has no plastic barrier under its engine and radiator. There's nothing to protect those from water, snow, salt, rocks, etc. Should the 1998-2000 S70 / V70 / C70 have this plastic belly pan, splash guard, skid plate, etc?
abescate, does the V70 I donated to you have it? I seem to remember that it did. My 2002 Benz wagon has two of these, really helping to keep the engine components clean.
IPD sells a splash pan, saying it was for European delivery cars only and not typically found on US models. They said it will require drilling to make it fit a 1998-2000. VolvoPartsWebStore has part 1397236 listed as for 850 only.
Is there some other way to protect the radiator, A/C parts, engine, transmission, etc? I'll swear my old 2000 V70 had a splash pan.

I have never seen a splash pan on a North American P80. I do recall having one on my Euro-P80 98 V70 T5 when I lived there so was surprised as to why there is not one on cars here as it keeps the engine bay cleaner.
The cover was only plastic and fairly flimsy, so not a skid plate!
There is a small splash guard just behind the front bumper which goes under the radiator on North American P80's.
I looked for an under-tray for the engine bay but had no luck, similarly a grille cover for cold weather.
If yo had one on the car you sent to abscate it may have been a personal import possibly?
Neil.

Should have said the front part Volvo calls an 'Air-Guide'. IPD lists it made by URO. It is one of the few items that they make that is worth paying for.
Interestingly I put in mu 2000 V70R for the under-tray you linked and it says it does not fit it. Not sure why it would not fit an AWD P80 v's a FWD??
Neil.

My 1999 came with the air guide only, nothing under the rest of the engine
I’ll check the 2000 tomorrow. It’s so cold the flashlight photons freeze before the reach the car.

My Grille cover that I use is called half a waxed pizza box put right in front of the condenser/radiator. Works great! Easy enough to get another one. Sadly, no FCP warranty on it... =)

Thanks for the info. I don't trust URO (because the Internet says not to), but I'll consider it since you recommend it. First, I'll check out some P80's at local junkyards to see if I can get an original one.

Adding to this thread, relevant for 1998-2000 P80s only
I’ve accumulated three of these now with broken tabs
Part numbers are 9190835 9190769 9169558
The new one is now NLA FROM Volvo
Parts geek sells the URO for $68
I want to ID the plastic and see if I can repair the hanging tabs, which is what breaks when you hit the curb

These splash pans may be polypropylene. I had success using Loctite Plastic Bonding System to repair the pan on my polypropylene Smart car pan.

The internets are right.
But....this is a loosely fitting plastic tray on the bottom of the car, gets blasted by water and muck, and is not really a critical part. If it gets broken, they're not so expensive.
My Audi A4 (which even sits up higher) has been through three of these plastic "air trays." In a snowbank once, it literally tore off. On my XC70, I'm installing the aluminum skid plate from IPD.
