2004 XC90 The key will not turn back to the 0 position from the 1 position
This query is a 2004 2.5T 5 Speed awd XC90. I started the car and let it run to warm up the fluids for about 15 minutes. We have Two XC90s the other is a 2007 3.2 6speed awd. Neither has been used much since January, 2020 because we work from home in K-12 school districts. I thought it wise to start it and warm it up, make sure the battery was well charged and to shift it through the full range and back to P(ARK). When I turned it off I found that I couldn't get the key out of the ignition switch. I restarted the car and turned it off back to the 1 position. It still wouldn't release the key. I restarted it ran the shifter to D and back to P to make sure it fully seated in P. The key turns back to 1 but will not turn back to 0. One last note the message window came up with 2 messages on the last restart. 1.) Fuel door unlocked, 2.) Anti-skid temporarily off. I'm thinking these are probably sporadic sensor errors because they have never popped up before in real time driving. Any ideas?

1. Remove the plastic cover on the bottom of the steering column.
2. Grab the mechanical cable with one hand and pull toward the lock.
3. With the other hand turn key to POS 0.
If this works, wrap something around the cable and tie it up so the the cable is always pulled toward the lock. Reassemble and call it a done deal.

Interlock cable can cause the same symptoms. My 2005 XC90 T6 was the same way when it first got it. That is what my post above is about.
