Hi Matt,
That's a very nice idea. I'll have to check to see how far i am from there (Central NJ).
Take care,
Al

I’ve been driving a Volvo long before anyone ever paid me to drive one.
That's probably because I've been driving one since 2015 and nobody has offered to pay me yet.
1998 v70, non turbo, FWD, base model, on the road from April 2nd, 2015 to July 26, 2023.

From this point going north, the Taconic Parkway is very scenic especially in the fall.
People drive on it just for the sake of driving

Having grown up in Bergen County in NJ, it's interesting to see on Abscate's map the town of New Hackensack. Hackensack required a "New" Hackensack? Hackensack is the seat of Bergen County but not necessarily London or Venice. I had to go there to register for the draft in 1971. As you might guess from the sound of the word, Hackensack was settled very early in the colonial era by the Dutch. I have an ancestor who came into New York (no longer New Amsterdam) as an indentured worker in 1709 from Germany to work on a project up on the Hudson River for a set number of years. He ended up in Hackensack, NJ a couple of years later when that venture collapsed and the indentured workers simply walked away.

A lot of history up in that neck of the woods. The venture was being promoted by the English to make what they call "ship stores" which included tar for sealing the planking of the hulls. At that time, almost ALL of the tar for nautical uses was coming from Finland. Since Finland was in the Russian sphere of influence, the English felt insecure and needed another source of tar. Unfortunately, the pine trees in the Hudson Valley were entirely useless for this purpose, but the Governor of New York had set this up to fill his personal pockets and was getting a subsidy for every individual worker from the English Crown. It followed that there were records kept with lists of names which allowed me to have a pretty good genealogical source for tracing that branch of my family. They actually came from a town called Leeheim in Germany. When they got to New York, they had been crammed into the holds of boats for months and many had cholera. They were quarantined on Governor's Island in New York harbor to keep them out of the city. My ancestor's wife died on that island, and I am a descendant of his second wife.

It's in my calender now.
Hopefully CT residents will still be allowed in at that point
Also, we might still be looking at some serious snow mountains in that part of the parking lot in the middle of march
