Re: What did you do to your P2 Volvo today?
Probably the most common failure of these cars! My car did that too shortly after I bought it. In my experience its a failure of the plastic clip that attaches the actuator to the window at the bottom rail. It's a pita to fix but I grabbed a few extra clips at the boneyard for the future. I remember driving around with duct tape on the window for 2 weeks until I had time to fix it!

Common euro car problem - usually broken plastic clips, but can be regulator warp problem also. I have repaired 2 and need to work on third on Volvo and Mercedes I own. You have reminded me it would be good to carry tape in the cars just for this possibility. It might even be a preventive maintenance job to replace the clips before they fail.

Interesting you guys - thanks.
Now I feel like I should order the factory clips new and get them to the glass shop - but we won't know which until it's open.

I had a back window regulator break on the E83 Bavarian Money Waster in our first year of ownership.
True to form I fixed it with a drywall screw and wood for a while, then finally broke down and Bought the $50 part from FCP after the third failed repair.
Stupid is as stupid does.

Is it these little blue clips?
Trying to find them here.

Oh, #4 here, only 6 bucks. Are they the only thing holding the glass up?

With the weather, shipping is a problem.
A thought just popped into my head - I roll the window down only once in a while - on a nice day, roll it down, roll it up when you get home. Why would it wear out? But the busy professional previous owner was the type to be hitting the coffee window constantly, and I'll bet that drivers window got a workout!

Right this very minute Ben is getting new CV boots on his passenger side. Have any of you ever encountered the dry rust dust (I have no idea what it is) on the inner shaft? I am driving up to Jersey in two weeks. I don't need any more stressors!
Hilariously, I can't find the axle dust sealing rings I ordered in October so I'll be driving the BMW home today. Erg.

Yeah, that rust is common, same on the driver's side. The axles go into a dry female spline on the transmission. It's also dry where it goes through the angle gear. You might want to put some grease on the splines when it goes back in.

Awesome, thanks. I got it to where you see in the pictures. I couldn't find the clip people were talking about and I was starting to get hangry so opted to leave it to revisit later.
The Bav Money Waster's headlights flicker, remember (probably a ground issue somewhere)...so I opted to leave to get home by dark. Right now the mood is waffling between buying a whole new driveshaft from FCP and trying to find a good video that's applicable to my car to help me out. Food first before I get in trouble with my grumpiness.

You will be ok with that driveshaft, it’s holding grease in so it’s not letting water In.
I have to put a fuel pump in my Bavarian money waster do using it for local errands to get the tank level down
Watch your weather window coming up, it’s that nasty time of year

I hear ya, gotta figure out how to disassemble it to put the new boots on though.
I just did that on my E46 this past summer! That and the starter from the top. I wish I were closer to you, I'd be happy to help.
Yes about the weather. If it comes to it I can drive my MX5 up but I'm selling it come warmer weather so I don't want to put all those miles on. Plus it's winter up North! Those tires will not work if the roads are anything but clean. I'll only have room for my work stuff too. So many checks in the no column.
Bottom line is I have to get Ben sorted.
