The Apple Car is coming

Post by matthew1 »

The future is autonomous cars. There will be an awkward 20-ish years where both people-steered cars and autonomous cars will coexist on US roads.

I can see 10-15 years down the line today's cars will begin to be restricted in (used) sales, to narrow the pool. I don't know how this will happen.

My son -- 11 years old -- will live through this transition. His kids will hear stories about how there was a time people were allowed to steer cars. They will recoil in horror.

The transition will be half autonomous cars, cars driven half the time by driver, the other half they look at their phone.....

Does the apple car mean that it will need to be replaced at full price every year, because the old one is no longer supported and it won't start.....??

This transition from driver control to autonomous will likely get ugly. Old school and new wave anger and resentment. Each state having different laws? Restricted highways for each type? Hydrocarbon fuels cost skyrocketing?

Remember the fights over motorcycle helmet laws and 55 MPH speed limits? This may be worse conflicts.

Two-lane highways with no shoulders or stripes....?

Busy cities with pedestrians crowding the crosswalks...?

Bunch of nattering nabobs of negativism

Think of all the fun cutting off autonomous cars at lights m knowing they will stop,

Left turns become a breeze!

Yes, the motorcycle helmet was condemned then and later people realized it was actually blessing for them.

Are masks the new helmet? Condemned first and then a blessing?
Did I just say that out loud?

"Things Look Bad for the Apple Car"

https://jalopnik.com/things-look-bad-fo ... 1847635275

"The automaker (Ford) said Tuesday that it’s bringing on Doug Field, who’s been a vice president in Apple’s special projects group. Field was a top engineer at Tesla Inc. between two stints at Apple and played a major role launching the Model 3 sedan.

Field joins the automaker as chief advanced technology and embedded systems officer, reporting to President and CEO Jim Farley.

Ford shares reversed a decline on the news to close Tuesday’s trading up less than 1 percent to $12.95, while Apple closed up about 1.6 percent to $156.69, off its high for the day.

"The Financial Times claimed this move “potentially spells the end of the iPhone maker’s automotive ambitions.”

Best of the Apple car...

If you turn off traction control and stomp on the gas, will it peel out?

When you buy new parts, are there still core charges?

Will all my repairs be Steve Jobs?
