2004 - Lost key fob. Alarm armed.

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

Hi!

I’m in a bit of a pickle. I lost the only key fob that came with my ‘04 s80 T6 when I bought it used. The car is locked, armed, and the parking brake on. The red light is flashing on the dash. There’s also some items of mine locked inside. The closest dealer to me is 160 km away. I called them and they said the car would have to be towed to them to order a new key. I was curious about the alarm going off. Would moving the car onto the tow truck or dollies set the alarm off? Assuming we pick the lock to the trunk, the alarm would go off too? Would disconnecting the battery once we’re on the trunk stop this? Or are there any fuses that could be pulled?

Just wondering if anyone has had to deal with such a situation or if they had any advice. Thank you so much in advance!

03 S80 T6 Here.

There is a battery in the Alarm Module in the passenger fender well. Not sure if that alarm will remain on till the rechargeable battery is drained. I would assume the car alarm under the hood would stop if the battery were to be removed. The alarm in the fender well is not that loud. You don't have much of a choice but to just remove the battery cable under the hood unless someone more technical can tell you which fuse or module to remove.

Hi Ben!

I am pretty sure your car have ISM right above the battery in the trunk, so your alarm would set off. Yes, the siren modul have a separate battery to be able to sound the alarm even when (or especially when) the battery is disconnected. It can be found in the right front wheel arc just behind the right headlight. You need to drill out the rivets for the mudguard/wheel arc cover or whatever, then use a dremel to cut the security bolt and remove the siren module after disconnecting the connector. Before that, it would be good to remove fuse from the passenger compartment (5A fuse, number 29 in mine (11C/29), but not sure how to do so without opening the driver door...Anyway, if you have a factory siren module the battery may be dead already and not able to sound the alarm, in that case you should do a battery replacement before it destroys the PCB in your siren, easy fix. Have you got alarm system service requires messages?

Hi MoVolvos and frmtaat. Thanks for the info! Since I have to tow it to the dealer, I'm curious now if the alarm would start going off while it's being loaded onto the dollies, or if it's only if a door or the trunk is opened while it is armed. I have to break into it at some point anyway, whether it's before towing it or maybe they will have a way of doing it at the dealer? They tell me I need to get the car physically there first so they can order the new key and fob. Would pulling that fuse stop the siren?

Check if you can order a dummy key (w/o the chip).
Keys from P80 cars (1994-1998 S70, V70 etc.) haves no chip.

Once you have the dummy key, you can get into the car, open the trunk and d/c the battery for towing.

PS: I have not done this thing, just a thought bc P80 simple key is $6.

ben10nnery: I would get it opened so you know it will be done right and no damage to the interior of the door or door itself. Perhaps combine both methods. I really like the second video!!!!

frmtaat: As for the alarm module I replaced the new battery too late. Thought it was just a weak battery and didn't know about the acid :?. Worked intermittently but just died not too long after the repair. Alarm board was eatin up pretty badly. Will get one off of eBay when I get sometime.
