Black wheels are always a flag to me....

Watch it now mister. I have one of those :D

Okay, let's compromise, though it's not for a Volvo  .

You've got a foot in both camps! Or a wheel...

Pete, I remember I insulted you before... apologies for that and this.

In my subjective, unscientific findings from my perusal of FB and CL ads over the years, black wheels are a characteristic of cars for sale that have problems typically associated with young drivers with high testosterone levels. As a French friend once told me, "You shouldn't comment on other peoples' taste," and I don't mean to do that here.

Stu70, please let us know how your inquiry into this goes. It's very interesting. It sure reads like a 4C replacement, not a 4C delete replaced with aftermarket struts/shocks. So that is good.

I was just bustin’ your chops Matt, all is well. I agree that black wheels are typically found on cars owned by wannabe boy racers, and in a lot of cases a big clue 🧐

The Tech Choice is put on everything. Paint, glass, all black trim and wheels. Wipe on and wipe off. I don't dry the car fully either. I highly recommend it :D .

Yes, a foot in the VW and Volvo camp. That's a 2021 or maybe 2020 VW Tiguan R_Line wheel which is impossible to get at a reasonable price. Took that at the Dealership for future reference. Gone to the Made in Mexico German VW for new cars. Don't care for any of the latest offering from Volvo nor can afford them.

I see the seller updated the listing & answered a couple questions. Just so you aren’t confused, when they mention service done to the “Haldex Transfer case” it’s a bit of a head scratcher if you read it like I did. Unless the seller is stating that “Haldex AND the transfer case was serviced”? Either way, I would seek some clarification on that topic.

The “transfer case” (aka angle gear/bevel gear) is bolted to the transmission & the 2 are coupled by a splined sleeve (collar sleeve). It conveys power from the trans to the rear differential. On its way to the rear final drive it passes though a “clutch”; this is what people are referring to as “Haldex”, DEM, or AOC (Differential Electronic Module, or Active On-demand Coupler). It is built into the front portion of the rear differential housing. In the Haldex portion of the rear drive there is a 12v pump, filter, special AOC oil (31367914) and a small module/computer on the outside. The rear differential (and transfer case/bevel gear) simply use gear oil. There is a shared seal between the two cavities & you do not want cross-contamination.

The reason it is important to know what was involved in the service is that
1. the DEM pumps eventually die, their fate seems unrelated to miles accumulated. They aren’t expensive ($265-300 USD), but the labor involved is daunting to some DIY-ers. To replace the pump & filter you have to remove the driveshaft. In NZ this may not be a huge issue as the car may not have a lot of salt exposure/corrosion (unless it’s spent it’s life near the coast?). Freeing it from the flanges is where most people run into problems.
2. If the angle gear/bevel gear/transfer case and/or collar sleeve was replaced this could be evidence of the car being “launched”, etc. It is not definitive evidence, though. The angle gears and collar sleeves on these seem to be hit or miss. You do tend to read of far more collar sleeve/bevel gear failures amongst R owners, though.

I think I’ve exceeded my character limit for the day so I’ll leave it at that :)

‘Twas a bit of sarcasm :)
Both sets of Peg’s were powdercoated black prior to me buying them (and the car) because the original owner didn’t like brake dust.

It’s great stuff! Try it on your counter tops, bathroom mirror, shower walls/curtain/glass, kids slides, kids sleds, boat hulls... Just don’t do the kitchen (or any tile/wood) floor with it! I’ve even done all the glass in our home (in and out) & we have a lot of it for such a small house.

I'd buy that car in a heartbeat! It's a littlepimped out but appears to be well looked after. These cars are pretty durable even if they're driven hard. If some parts fail after you buy it you can replace them. But do make sure the AWD works well when you buy it. Atacama interior is awesome and rare, plus a six speed manual? The only thing that would keep me from getting it is that I have two large hounds and need a wagon, otherwise I'd totally have a S 60,70, or 80!

On that note: also, the S60 has a tiny interior. The back seat is useless, it is more like a bookshelf.

Black wheels, egg crate grills, Miatas, then finally.....
