What's it worth? '06 XC 70 39,000 miles, 1 owner

Post by Blacklab467 »

There's a pretty sweet XC 70 that recently came up for sale in my area. Willow Green, brown and Tan interior, and 63,000kms. (39,000 miles). I'm thinking of dealing on it, asking price is $12,000 CDN which is $9400 USD. Any thoughts on what would constitute a fair deal on this essentially new car? It's got a pretty full option load, wood wheel, 4C suspension, dog barrier. I'm thinking $9000 would be a good number, it's still a 15 year old car.

Serviced?
it would need a timing belt at least.

I'm going to get some details on it today, I would probably want to do the timing belt if it hasn't been done already. One could probably skip the idlers and water pump if you're just changing the belt due to age......no?

Dealer service records and timing belt done would support a $7k-ish US price. But if it has the colors and options you’re looking for, all the pricing rationality in the world is null.

High dollar zip code? “Abscate’s Rule” is one of the best used Volvo tips I’ve ever absorbed here. High dollar zip code owners are more likely to have cars serviced at the dealer, and servicing cars at the dealer = stuff gets done by the book, with blue box parts.

It’s been well maintained, original TB but Volvo maintenance intervals for everything else done at the dealer. Owner seems reluctant to deal and wants to see what happens with the 12 k ask for a couple more weeks. Beautiful car though! I would rather not have 4C suspension but it works for now and no service required.
Old Blackie didn’t like that I was taking a shine to another Volvo and threw on the red battery light today in protest! I really don’t need a 63000 km version of Old Blackie if I’m being honest, I only drive about 14000 kms a year and I’ve got a few grand in OEM parts in my ‘03 and it’s been mostly well behaved.......until today.

If I knew I wanted another volvo down the road in 3-5 years, I would cough up 10k for that willow green / beige. That’s a gorgeous colour combo.

It’s definitely my favorite combo also, I narrowly missed on one of this hue last spring with low kms for 3500 bucks that needed a brake booster. We’ve been occasionally toying with the idea of replacing wife’s Subaru with an XC70 but she sees me in the garage under mine too often and gets wary! Maybe I’ll see what I can make happen on it over the next few days...........
