Power Steering Pressure Hose 04 S60 2.4

Well, 1 year after replacing the rack now my pressure hose is leaking at the crimps right behind the rad fan.

It was chaos trying to find a matching part number for mine (04 s60 2.4 naturally aspirated, ZF rack, no steer assist, threaded lines). Finally found one, now I need the hose. I came up with 8684300, anyone here more experienced reading these crazy parts diagrams that can help?

Also I viewed a video of a 2001 XC70 replacing the pressure hose. He didn't need to remove the subframe. Is this job doable just on the ground with the vehicle on ramps without an engine support system? Thanks.

I've done it on my XC 70 and a buddy's 05 XC 90. It's doable on jack stands. You will have to drop the rear subframe and the front at various stages of removal and reinstallation. It's probably my least favourite job. On the 90 we also had to remove the motor mounts to lift the motor from the subframe. For this we just used a jack from the bottom on the oilpan. It's an ugly job but doable. There's a good video that you can google of a guy doing it on his driveway on an '03 S60, I think his youtube handle is BigTimeMcAlpine.

Sounds like money well spent at the indy then! Lol still need to confirm the part number as I prefer to bring my own parts in. Just watched that video by the way. I have no AWD nor turbo so it should make it slightly easier.

Check the price of an OEM one from Volvo of Toronto, don't bother with aftermarket unless its Gates brand. If you're mechanically capable and have a good set of tools (and Crowfoot wrenches) its a 6 hour job, otherwise take it to the Volvo Indy where they will have some experience with this job. That McAlpine guy is somewhere in Ontario and he is on "That other Volvo Forum"........maybe you can talk him into helping you!

If is just a a "sweat" I would leave it there. As mentioned, it's not a fun job. You may try getting a hose from junkyards such as Kennyupull in the summer, will give you a hint about how hard it is, problem is they don't allow jackstands. This hose may also get punctured near the small lower engine mount at the harmonic balancer, it gets crushed. When the front subframe is lowered, the hose may start leaking at the crimp because it stays attached to the subframe which it's pulling down on it

Thanks, I was able to find the ProParts # 8684300 at my local Carquest for $130 CAD. No U-Pull and no dealer for at least 300km from me. Will update thread

You have to undo the brackets before you drop the subframe or else you bust stuff. You can undo it at the power steering pump too

- I'd stay away from "Pro Parts"...
- Stick to Volvo OEM, if possible, bc this is HIGH PRESSURE 400-1000 psi. It can cause fire if burst suddenly.
Some Mercedes caught fire bc of this and had to be recalled.
- As mentioned above, if the leak is "sweating", then live with it and wipe it often while monitoring the hose.
The Volvo OEM hose rarely rarely burst.

PS: For those with 2.5T, when did your HIGH-PRESSURE hose fail? What year/mileage?

I like living on the edge, that's why I buy PPS

nah but actually PPS is all I can get locally and I like supporting my local parts counter.

2.4 hose failed at 300km, and it's no weep/sweat or I wouldn't be posting here. It's a bad leak.
