British to English Translation.

Assuming that we will soon be bombarded by refugees I think we all need a primer on British to English translation.

My translations are quite crude and largely come from what I have picked up on the message boards. I'm sure that Bill and Solutech can correct me and add definitions as necessary.

American English=========British English
Hood=================Bonnet
Trunk=================Boot
Wagon================Estate
Sedan================Saloon
Distributor Cap==========Dizzy or Dizzey
Flash Light=============Torch
Torch================I don't know but don't advise its use to look in the gas tank.
Lucas================The Father of Darkness.

In some parts of the UK ask for a Scotch in a pub and you will be asked if you want a pint or a half, in a straight glass or a mug. Scotch is also a type of beer which was usually brewed in ---- Yes you guessed, Scotland.

A little story of how things can get confused:Boot = trunk

We have a friend who wears cowboy/biker boots rain or shine. He was at Ikea paying for a table, when he pondered aloud " I wonder if this will fit in my boot?"
The cashier leaned over and looked at his feet and said "no way it will never fit!"
