Yeah they were a great little motor, little being the key word. I always wanted to drop it a MGB I had. Thought that would have been a hoot to drive. But I did have one in a Willys Jeep cj. That was just plain scary. Still have a 289 sitting in a crate. Hmm. 289 Volvo

All you need is a good old 240 as a base and a conversion kit. Vooila, another Folvo

I like the face on the fan on the left! WOOT!!

Question - Is the wheel bolt pattern the same on the 240 and the 122? I thought it changed with the 140.
I have pics like this and assumed the 240 Virgos would go on a 122, but maybe they've swapped axles??

122 has 5x4.5 bolt pattern.
1800E and all cars 140+ have 5x4.25.

So that wagon has had axles and hubs swapped I think.

Found an old write-up of "Jim Hekker's" 122s in New Zealand. He used his old wheel centers, welded to a new barrel for the width and offset he wanted. 15x6 ET20. 195/60-15 tire.

I believe the optional wagon steelie is 5 1/2".

"The standard 4" wide Amazon wheels were widened to 6" by Road Wheels NZ a local wheel restoration business. The original wheel centres were used with new 6" wide rims. I specified a wheel offset of 20mm. The standard 4" wheels had 25mm offset. So comparing the standard 4" wide wheels and the new 6" wide setup, I have now 30mm extra width on the outside and 20mm extra on the inside of the total extra 50mm rim width. No clearance problems. The backspacing is now 107mm. The result is amazing, good roadholding and a pleasant drive! The existing wheel hubs fit nicely.

"Originally I had the wheels built with zero offset, so all the extra 2" width was on the outside - increasing the "track" by 100mm - but this caused so much bumpsteer on the uneven NZ roads and it put so much more stress on the bearings, steering (and not to forget my arms) that I had them redone to the above specification."

It may have been mentioned before, but the Newman/Letterman hot-rod builds used the early Ford small block engines, which are narrower than first-gen Chevy. Those were converted from brand new cars though.

I thought about doing this same thing when my '69 1800S was still among the living. It was a lot of money back then, and the Ford Torino wheels fit, but as I recall the backspacing was off. This same idea has been floated around in the Studebaker world for our 3/4 ton trucks ('49-'54) with two-piece Budd wheels. The few brave souls who have actually commissioned that work refuse to disclose the final contract cost. Must mean it approaches Insane.
