Lo and behold a trip to the parts yard yielded a same year same type same color Volvo with near perfect front seats. I have them at home now and I'm getting them cleaned up to install. I have looked at a few Youtube vids and it looks to be straight forward, but I would like to make sure I have the procedure right:
1 - unhook the battery
2 - Pull out the original seats
3 - I have the entire donor seat with controls - seeing as how both donor car and mine are the same year, do I need to swap the control panel? Is there anything else I should swap to make the seats and seat heaters work properly, and the car computer to "accept" them?
4 - I was planning to put the seats in place (not bolt them down) plug them in and test the electrics. Is this the best way to test? Like, vs applying 12VDC to the connectors on the donor seats? I have a trickle charger I was thinking about using for a power source..

Undo the battery 10 min ahead, for the Airbag in the seat. The torx bolt on the lower seat belt attachment: the metal piece stays at a specific position, it has a bump to align it. Very important not to tighten too strongly the bolt because it has very short threads and starts shearing early, which will reduce its strength in case of a crash. I swapped completely from the same year electric instead of my manual passenger, no issues, works perfectly (my car had already electric driver's side). To check the seat simply connect and use the switches, no way to power from battery - and you may even pop the side airbag

you only need to swap the module, the rest is low tech.

Thanks - I wasn't sure if the module was keyed to the car or not. And thanks for the ten minute warning on the battery. This is a pretty easy job but it does have a couple of land mines - like these two issues, to be aware of.
