Easily found a breaker bar and 30mm socket not too expensive. Turned the engine (turned backwards 2mm, forwards about 4 inches), cranked it...BAM! Threw something, now a gaping 2 inch hole at the far front right side of the block. Just great. I didn't catch on that perhaps the rear differential was the issue (thinking it was the carrier support bearing), which threw out the transmission, which threw out the engine. Thats the conclusion I came to. Lesson learned. I feel frustrated. I had the wheel of the best Volvo between my hands a week ago. Now look at me. Now to put more money, than I typically have in the past, into buying a new car. Im about to start an opinion thread. Also I am going to begin PARTING OUT my 960. NEED 960 PARTS? PM me!

4 inches is not a turn. 360° is a turn. You go all the way around twice ( 720° ) to make make sure nothing is getting funky.

Now it sounds like he bent a rod. Then broke it when he restarted the engine.

Sorry to hear that happened. You do have the opportunity now to do an engine tear down video to show what happened.

Wow that's true. That would not be possible if I had not bought a breaker bar today. Oh wait...that means I can do that on my XC engine as well. Might a Volvo inline 5 coffee table with bamboo top be an option? Oooooooo. That would be one heavy coffee table and not because of oak  :P Volvolugnut has struck a twangy nerve. :D lol I'm feeling like a goofy zombie.

Unfortunately, I'm pretty positive that I'm getting the XC engine and 960 both hauled off in a few hours. Yesterday, I spent from about 7pm-1:50am stripping out almost all 960 parts. I now have a 960 steering wheel and airbag in my collection. In total I have 7 Volvo front seats, 2 entire 2nd rows, and 1 whole third row. Two black S80 T6 front seats, two oak XC front seats, three grey 960 front seats, one oak XC 2nd row, one grey 960 2nd row, and one ugly brown V70 GLT 3rd row.
