Does not accept that his investment is not recoverable unless he completes the project. Even then the profit margin may not be what one would hope for. If there is one.

Me and a buddy figures out years ago. Restoring old cars is a hobby. You hope to recover your investment on a sale so you can it roll into the next project. The money is in custom built to order. That is building what a customer will buy.

One restorer in my hometown does nothing but Mustangs. He does the mechanics, bodywork and primers them. Leaves the paint and interior undone. You buy the car that way then finish it yourself or hire somebody such as him to finish it. He will not finish it until you own it. Keeps him from getting stuck with something he cannot sale. Don't pay for the finish work .. he can sale a car for the price of paint and interior.
