What did you do to your P2 Volvo today?

Everything went smooth yesterday. I referenced the great information here and the instructions on my Vida. The replacement “previously owned” hubs were already setup correctly. So basically going through the setup I ended up in the same position with the hub slides in relation to the gears. My exhaust hub had 3mm of axial play and just felt sloppy, so I replaced it as expected. I replaced the intake hub as well mainly because I spent the time to clean up the donor before starting this. I put new gaskets on the hubs which I got from FCP. Installation of the Cam seals were straight forward made easy with the tool. They go back into proper position, no worries there. I will say the old seals were a pain to get out with the tight space. You don’t have a lot of room to drill a hole in them and installing a screw. I just pried them out with a panel popping tool. I do use a Cam locking tool I got from FCP, as a matter of fact in the 5 months owning it I’ve used it a bunch tracking down my leaks and doing maintenance. Well worth the 100 bucks plus piece of mind. Time your crank, lock your cam’s = a happy day. Moving on, it appears my Cam seals were leaking. I’ll add some pics. Everything is back together, no leaks, no codes. Well, I do have two codes I created, an aftermarket stereo and I disabled the headlight washers. Time to move on to those leaking power steering crossover tubes.

First time reader/first time forum participant, Hi! I’ve been searching for an answer to whether I should trade my Virginia in for a newer SUV. She’s been a reliable, safe little town trekker for my son and I for about a year or so now. I bought her for $10 from a church. In researching how to repair the broken odometer, I stumbled upon inspiration to attempt fixing the radio. Welp, I just fixed it! I’m fortunate enough to have all the original manuals and brochures, with the security code written everywhere. I had no idea it would be that easy. Safe to say, Virginia will be staying in the family. Odometer gear w/LED dash bulb replacement is next once the kit comes in. I’m so excited!

Congrats on your repair and keeping Virginia alive!

These cars respond well to high mileage / age care with cheap operations like cleaning out PCV , filter changes, and oil changes.

I ordered a torque rod mount and oil cap gasket today. In the former the rubber just jiggles around in the housing currently and the latter is cracked and clearly original to Ben.

I've got a weird vibration in the front under braking and since the Zimmerman rotors aren't even a year old, I'm hesitant to blame them. Ben is my old man carriage and I have never abused his brakes (unlike the Bav or the Brembos on the MX-5). Still, I'll take him in to have the rotors turned on Thursday as up North, they do that here. In the south it's impossible to find someone competent/a working lathe/etc. Naturally I'll check the tire pressure too. He's been having this issue a while now and of all the rotors I've bought for various cars over the years, I've never had this problem. The Zims went on with new pads and then were properly bedded in.

It just be the pre-nuptial jitters...

Make sure the caliper slides are nice and shiny, the replacement calipers use silver cheese for the metal and will shake and bake your calipers
