850-97 No keys, need to hotwire the imobilizer before eng removal

Post by JoelL »

Hi forum and 850 lovers

We have 850 -97 that will donate the engine to a 740 drifiting project before going to the recycle plant. However the keys are lost!!

the dash is completly broken up so all the wiring is visible. ingnition switch broken up end operated by screwdriver, the imobilizer and 15 cm wiring visible, the black ring from the imobilizer who interact with the desiganted key-keys still hocked up the imobilizer..

The engine runs on starter, a sound from the fuelpump in the back can be heard, also clicking sound from engine. It starts for a second and then goes dead but starter runs.

on the imobilizer it's 10 cables. from left to right 1-10. 6 RED=12V when bat on, 7 BLUE= 12v ignition on, 8 BLACK=8 ohm to chassi (suspected ground). 9-10= goes to key ring sensor.

Any solution to get engine started and checked before removal.

We didn’t get the immobilizer in 1997 but if it’s anything like the 1999 here it is not analogue signals, but a code sent to the ECU when the immobilizer recognizes the key. You need the key , in short.

Volvo obviously won’t share a work around of a security system like this , ifone exists.

Thats box needs keys to be made and i am maybe too far from your box to handle that for you (maybe not wanting wait sweden-finland-sweden postage).

No wiring bypasses sorry.

But more likely you can handle ECU to get modded i assume with someone who knows how to do certain things.

Swap the immobilizer with one you have a key chip for.

When tested with another IMMO box i got "Green signal" signal for between ECU and IMMO so there is some possibilities these are just sending standard "Green signal" after chip is verified from IMMO as "OK" and these would not be synced/crypted OK signal between IMMO and ECU at all like some newer ones.

I didn't test and drive the car though so i didn't suggest this but i want confirm this from live data i checked when coding and testing different IMMO and so i give small support for this option too as possibility.
