Hello,
Long time lurker, first time posting.
I've gathered countless helpful information maintaining my 240, 760, and 850 here.
Does anyone know if the 1990 760 turbo came with r12 or r134? It is a bit of a unicorn as far as spec goes and is pretty much an early 9xx series chassis/parts.
It is not the same fittings as the low pressure quick connection on my 850. But it also has the more modern AC canister with ports that came on late series 240/940 for r134 (not the same port layout as the 740 r12). It is a screw on fitting schraeder valve for the low pressure connection. Perhaps they came stock r134 or it was converted by volvo by the original owners.
The AC has worked flawlessly since my ownership, I am the second owner and it was meticulously maintained its whole life. 276K on the clock. The compressor is cycling and clicking on and off every 12 seconds or so.
Thanks for any input from the Volvo gurus of the web.
Cheers
Keaton
I can provide pics if necessary.

Look at the low side fitting to see what the original refrigerant was.
1990 Volvo use R12 on all models. But it may of been converted to R134A.

It does have the r12 connection on the low pressure port, however since the AC had been working quite well for years, is it safe to assume the system was converted?
Is there any easy way to find out? Or should I have a shop empty and service the freon? I know the oils used in the systems are not compatible.
Thanks for the tip Rick

The only way I know of is when the shop does put a R134A sticker or mark the system R134A. Otherwise the smart move would be have a shop evacuate both the refrigerant and the oil. Then do a full recharge.
