Going into park trans.

Post by loveMy850 »

Hi guys....ok here's the deal, when I go to park and attempt to put it in park, sometimes it seems to grab and kinda with a thunk between reverse and park. It doesn't do this all the time but it's scareing the heck out of me. I checked my tranny codes, all's clear. I will have my fluids changed Monday, it needs it, brown ugh... If that's not it well what about the linkage and where do I check for the linkage and adjustment?, or whatever else anyone thinks what the problem is. Thank you....❤

Check the torque link that attaches the transmission to the subframe. If it's never been replaced, there's a good chance it's rotted out and allowing a lot of movement between gears. As far as the transmission internals go, definitely a good idea to keep the fluid nice and clean. A series of drain + refills with a little mileage in between will slowly change out the fluid and helps avoid issues associated with sudden full fluid flushes.

Torque link looks like this under the car:

Hi again hey look I'm sending a pick but I'm not sure if this is what we're talking about,I did replace one of these bushings didn't quite go in right, a friend retried and it looks like it's dropped, he said I need the one closest to the fire wall replaced do. What am I looking for, I know this is causing my engine to shake, but the one I did put in helped a little, got hurt pretty bad and haven't been able to do my own work for awhile. Thanks hun, anything you can tell me will so much appreciated.going to the school today just have a look see. TY

The one up front at the engine looks like the rubber is broken.

Chuck is probably right but I can't tell from that angle for sure. The long threaded bolt in the picture that runs under the cable is the top torque mount. They do fail. What I can't tell is if the inner part has separated from the outer. Basically you have 2 round pieces of rubber in that bush that should have some rubber sections connecting the 2 parts. If those have cracked and separated then it will cause a clunk as Chuck and your advisor has said.

If you can re-post with a picture taken from the side of the bushing we may be able to confirm.

The 3 most likely mounts to cause this issue are the top torque mount, the lower torque mount which you have replaced and lastly the engine pad mount under the RHS of the engine near the front RHS wheel to frame. A gentle jacking of the motor with a floor jack at that end of the oil pan with a piece of wood between the oil pan and jack will show it that has failed. Best done with the RHS wheel off and the car on a jack stand on that side under the frame.

Good Luck.

Neil.

Ok guys please keep tabs on me,may need you next week. TY so much.
