MAf sensor, Bosch NLA Topic is solved

You don't need to replace the whole MAF just the sensor. Which goes for ~$50.00.

Good point, replacing just the sensor component might be a solution. If you don't mind, could you suggest a Bosch part number(s)? Then folks could poke around for price, availability and fitment into the stock housing.

Remove the sensor from the housing and get the Bosch part number off the sensor. The sensors changed from year to year. Turbo and NA use different sensors. One needs to start with a Bosch MAF that is correct for that year and configuration.

When handling the sensors do not touch the sensor elements. They are fragile. Handle the sensor from the electrical connector end only.

You will find that the sensor was used in other makes of cars. You can get the same part for less if it marketed for say a Folks Wagon.

You will probably need a security Torx to remove the sensor, although it can be removed without that tool.

It might be a Torx Plus security bit. Count the number of points. Torx security is six points, Torx Plus Security is five points.

Odd how less is plus. The confusion must be the plus security feature. :lol:

Just to make this a bit clearer:

Non turbo cars up to '95 use different MAF than turbo cars.
'96 & '97 850 non turbo & turbo... along with s,v,c,xc70 non turbo & turbo up to '99 use the same Maf sensor...Bosch 0 280 217 107.

That said....'92-'95 (including '95) 850 non turbo don't use the same MAF as '96 & '97 850 non turbo.

OK so it is just speculation, no actual data, fair enough. Yes, taking apart the MAF is simple and the sensing element should never be touched. Fortunately the sensing surfaces are still pretty well protected even when the sensor is removed from the housing.

As misha has posted a couple times in this thread, the most common P80 MAF and the subject of this thread is the ubiquitous Bosch 0 280 217 107, used in most later-year P80 cars (all 95 turbo, all 96-98 both turbo and NA; US model years).

For Bosch 0 280 217 107, the sensor-only part number appears to be 781 15 1 A, possibly with 106 appended:

Note the number 781 15 1 A is also stamped on the housing where the sensor inserts:

I anticipate it will be difficult to match up this info and find another source of 781 15 1 A as Bosch doesn't make these numbers available (obviously, or we'd already have them without looking at one for the sensor number). But any patient internet search pros are certainly encouraged to click away!
