Have u checked for vacuum leaks? Do you have a code scanner? What are your long term fuel trims?

I'm not mechanic myself. But I may start to be one as far as it goes.
I do not have scanner, but people in car shop were referring to fuel pressure code. Hoses look fine.
Know nothing about fuel trims.

How many miles? When did it start acting up? Has there any improvements with your repairs?

Fuel filter? How is your exhaust pressure? Does it appear you have a clogged exhaust? How much oil does it consume?

How long have you owned it and does it burn any oil?

You have provided very little to go on - so these are the first questions.

Go back to autoparts store and write down the codes the engine is throwing or buy a cheap scanner - that would help.

Try a used PEM from Ebay, $40 plug&play. The Check Engine is not related to PEM. You don't mention if the engine is running fine without missing when operational. Also, if you have the metal plastic tank, the hose under the fuel pump may get kinked upon reinstalling

2003 probably does not have PEM yet. A new "fuel pressure regulator" confirms that.

antoniveb, buy any cheap OBD-II scanner and read the fuel trims: short term (STFT) and long term (LTFT), and post the numbers here. Any vacuum leaks or weeping injectors would result in fuel trim thrown off the rails.

Also read the codes and paste them there.

Thanks for all responds. I'm going to buy OBD-II scanner now.

Car is 170k. Does not burn oil. Oil stays clear. Never need to add.
I own it since 2017. Made 20000 miles.

It started to stall and show check engine in 2019. Engine was shaking sometimes.
Went to car shop: Replaced spark plugs. Then fuel pump and pressure regulator (were replaced twice in a row by two different mechanics).
Check Engine disappeared for a week. Then all problems went back.

I switched to 95 Super+ gas and it stalled much less. Like ones in two three weeks or less. On 93 octane it stopped twice a day.
Engine Check was on/off periodically.

Last year I was lucky and when inspection was due there was no Check Engine light. Passed.

But for past 6 month Check Engine light was steady on.

To pass inspection this March, I went to car shop and MAF sensor and O2 sensors were replaced.
Took car from shop. In two days Check Engine is back and car stalls like hell. Not drivable. Idle feels a bit rough. And loss of power.

scanning the codes should show the problem, they sell neat little scanners that work with smartphones.

Stalls less on high octane fuel is a clue. Engine shaking is a clue .... Detonation?

When it does stall, does it sound like the motor is trying to self destruct.

Combustion chambers could be full of carbon. This could raise the compression above that of the low octane gas. Seafoaming the Combustion chambers then blowing the carbon might be in order.

Shuts down silently and starts back quickly. No black clouds out of pipe.
