The benefits of having your credit card swipe-hacked

Hello Matthew,

Due to a problem with your payment method(s) on file we were unable to renew your Amazon Music Unlimited subscription. To retain access, please update your payment information in the next 3 days or your Amazon Music Unlimited subscription will be canceled.

Thanks,
Amazon Music
I'd forgotten about this account. So hey, count me $5 or $10 ahead every month :D

It got swipe-hacked at a car wash here in Denver. You know how they say swiping is bad, chip is good? This is why.

There was no physical swipe piggyback mechanism -- I check for those. They must have simply caught the data stream and parsed out my CC number and expiration. That data is unencrypted. Two days later I got a message from my bank asking if I'd spent $90 at a Conoco in Broomfield. I hadn't, and the fraud report/cancel was simple.
Help keep MVS on the web -> click sponsors' links here on MVS when you buy from them.

Also -> Amazon link
. Click that when you go to buy something on Amazon and MVS gets a cut!
