Sveedy wrote: 16 Apr 2021, 07:44 So how does everybody feel about the very real possibility that you will have to get a Covid shot every year ?
I was worried that things might move that way eventually, but it's looking like its going to happen sooner than later.
Do we really believe that we can no longer, or should no longer, live in this world without the help of big pharma, an industry ( yes it is one ) that has to recall thousands ( apx 4500 ) of its own previously approved products every year ? Products that went through way more testing over a much longer time frame than any of these vaccines. The more this all goes on, the more resistant I am to getting any of these so called " cures ". One week pharma is advertising their goodies to you, and the next week lawyers are signing you up for a class action lawsuit for issues with those very same goodies. Of course in this case big pharma is covered with legal exemptions.
Taken any Zantac recently ? I didn't think so.
Perhaps not a very good analogy and can make anyone the enemy within and without.

I'd take your argument for the pharma long tail products, certainly, but for the premiere pharma effort in the last, what 50? 100? years?

How can anyone even quantify the scrutiny these vaccines are getting? https://trends.google.com/trends/explor ... &q=vaccine there's an empirical attempt.

If you're going to put out a bad product, a covid vaccine is not the one you want to choose. Every eye in the world is watching this. Every journalist, every scientist.

I totally get what your saying. Certainly there are good intentions. But what I'm suggesting is that maybe we need a whole paradigm shift in our approach to not just this virus, but to future ones. And that we might be being hampered in just looking at different approaches. Being devils advocate here, but it almost strikes me the same way as " We need to defeat all evil ". I'm not sure that that can be accomplished, so maybe focus on treatment / mitigation instead. We have found ways to reduce the death rate after all. Find a way to reduce it to nothing more than an annoyance.

Realistically I can't see the whole world getting to the point of heard immunity, via vaccines. It would seem to be an impossible task to get 70%+ of the worlds population vaccinated at all about the same time. I would think that if you can't do that, then some people would be coming to the effective end of their individual treatment as others are just starting theirs, or maybe not yet at all, so it would just keep going and going somewhere in the world. Seems like a lot natural process would have to be involved somewhere to fully eliminate it. But I just saw a PSA that stated that even if you have had Covid and recovered you should get a shot. I just think that we might be missing something here. So at least for now my sleeve is staying down. But my ears and eyes are open.

I try to be impartial and look at both sides but where there is great $$$ and control of the masses involved I'm skeptical. All my kids were vaccinated and one was injured but did fulfill all 10 years later. Was the healthiest child. I don't ever remember getting the flu shot while growing up. Parent got them as they got older.

I got my 2nd shot on 2/18. I'm pleased to be able to report that I haven't grown any unexpected new warts, or lesions, or limbs, or orifices, or any other form of dystopian sci-fi mutations. Also, there haven't been any lingering side effects.

The 2nd shot made me feel sore from neck to knuckles to knees for about 3 days. For the first day, it was so bad it was hard to type.

It tickles my funny bone when people expect medicine to make them feel good like recreational drugs.

If you're going to put out a bad product, a covid vaccine is not the one you want to choose. Every eye in the world is watching this. Every journalist, every scientist.
The scientific community began working on a SARS vaccine during late 2002, largely led by government clinicians in several countries. That work continued ( in our case in the States by fits-and-starts ) through MERS, Ebola, Zika, and other related viruses. A good portion of the current vaccines were not developed in-house by corporate entities. Advances in things like DNA analysis, especially in England in tracking RNA strains, and computer modelling have all led us to this point in the current Pandemic. The fact that the virus is mutating should not be surprising; it cannot mutate if it does not spread. ( New Zealand is the poster child. ) In other places where virus skeptics and vaccine resistance exist there are still massive viral loads circulating in communities, and I don't think that can be laid at the feet of Big Pharma.
