Big brake upgrade FCP kit 850.

Post by rguzz »

I just did this, 12" rotors and bigger bracket. Didn't buy all the pieces in the kit, didn't need them. Fits fine under the 16" Perfos. Be aware the bigger brackets are SKANDIX not OEM Volvo which may again be NLA. I should have noticed. In their DIY video they use Volvo brackets. When I compare them with the old ones, the casting is clearly cleaner on the Volvo units. Fit OK. They weren't cheap either, 70 bucks a pop. A little disappointed but my fault for not paying attention, and it likely doesn't matter. FYI.

If I recall the 300mm larger caliper racket is now NLA.

Should have added, you did check that the front wheels can turn fully without stretching the flexi-hoses? Some say you don't have to replace, but Volvo doesn't have an option part for that version for no reason.

I have to go back and replace the hoses up front. Looks like the fit is fine with the shorter ones, the 365mm ones. The longer ones are 380mm I believe. Bleed and replace as they are pretty badly cracked. FCP didn't have the longer ones, other sources?

I think I got my longer ones from IPD. That being said, it looked like mine would have worked no issues with the standard size. 97 850 with Volans.

I have a set of SS Stoptech brake lines kicking around, might be a few mm longer than the stock ones, possibly 370mm. I will replace the pretty badly cracked ones with these, if they are truly short then over time I'll seek out the longer ones. By eyeball, looks like they will be fine. The bigger rotors will be an improvement, though overall this hardly falls in to the must do repair category. Unlike the heater core, motor mounts, dropping headliner, etc. etc. that still await me. Thanks!
