Plasti dip on door handles question.

Post by Holiday »

I've been considering doing my plastic bumper trim, side trim and door handles in black plasti dip. My question about door handles, as they get pulled on, will the plasti dip then eventually peel off with use?

In my experience, Yes. Unless you dip the parts many times, which you can get away with on tools and the such. But I wouldn't recommend it for your handles or trim. If the parts are just faded then you can get products that will dye and seal the plastic.
303 Aerospace Protectant spray is good for maintaining plastic etc bits. If you want to redo them, then maybe look at Trimrestorer.com. The problem is that the bumpers and side trim are more of a charcoal color than black.

You can temporarily try out different colors with plasti-dip, like blue, red, or brown.

Thanks for the responses. I was wanting to do all the plastic trim around the car in black. Doing extra coats of plasti dip on door handles is not an issue but as another option can anyone recommend a dye/restorer that will blacken the trim and maintain for at least a couple years?

Nanolex Trim Rejuvenator if you dont have a garage.
GTechniq C4 if you do have a garage.
As with most things, prep is key here. Buy some IPA and some good degreaser for cleaning. Dry thoroughly. Apply, then if you have the GTechniq C4 it needs to cure for 12-24 hours indoors.

Both will last for 1-2 years depending on the weather conditions, and both have excellent restorative affects.
