Now had 850 automatic for since 2014 by looking old Service reset log i have still.. and had so far no world stopping problems been myself (almost all is in my thread what i have done). 20 Valve systems i would look that head valve work has been done as they are more likely to have leaking or burned valves(?). I would look late 850 models too because cylinders had some problem going out of shape(?) someone with details can say better about these. Then too on 10 valves as they are old one weak point is during summer time mine is showing that oil leak burn smokes at the start so my valve guide seals needs be replaced but i think thats almost every car by that time of lifecycle.

To me i need a car that ables me to carry stuff while listening to radio , to be as confort as possible, reliable, permiss naughty naps in the nature. And to be secure.
After that, it's not as modern as a today car, but for a daily, it's ok for me. And when my big son will borrow it to live his onw adventure, i will feel ok if he might meet a stupid driver...

I know they're two very different cars lol. How reliable are 850's, since they're a bit older? Whichever one I get I plan on lightly modifying (intake, exhaust, lowering springs/coilovers, possibly a tune, etc).
850 is an awesome choice. We had it for 23 years. I am happy to mail you a copy of Haynes Repair Manual, just PM me your address.

210,000mi original engine and transmission, no rebuilds, original headgasket etc. Ran her out of oil via oil cooler line for several miles on two occasions and still has excellent compression. I would say quite durable but expect some maintenance. Those 850s love attention and they're not afraid to throw a code to get some of that TLC.

I had 400,000 miles on my 1995 before I gave it to a friend so I could buy an s60r. No material issues (basically normal maintenance) with the 850 for the life of the car. All running excellent with no rust anywhere. Spectacular car.
