I recently replaced the transmission torque mount due to the loud clunk when shifting from P to R or D. The clunk was absent for a short while, but it has now returned. In addition, I can feel and hear it while it downshifts during the drive.
Could it be because I reused the 2 old nuts at he subframe and the torque has failed? Other mounts are failing too?

I now have Hutchinson version of the upper torque mount upper and lower torque rod; preparing to replace the two this weekend. While assessing the removal of the lower rod from the bracket, the rusty ring around the axle at the bearing mount looked suspicious. Any thoughts on the exposer and layer of rust?

No Change!
Replacing 3 mounts did not eliminate the clunk; it is loudly present when shifting from P to R or D.
My other experience with clunk was 2001 V70XC drive axle, which broke off during removal.

Replacing mounts has tighten the front a little, from viberating clunk to sharp and crispier clunk. The down shift while drive is barely audible.
Suspecting axles, with 155,000 miles on these axles, I'm exploring either to service the axle, boots, etc., not sure if GKN boots are available for these axles, or have it rebuild at Raxles, or just purchases a new GKN or Volvo pair.
Your thoughts?
P.S. I do not enjoy raising XC90 and setting it on jack-stand, but way easier to DIY. 850 and XC70 are friendlier to raise.
